Veterans Schedule for Rating Disabilities
Both the
Department of the Army and Department of Veterans Affairs
utilize this scale to rate disabilities. The Army considers only
conditions the deem the soldier unfit per AR 40-501 while the VA
considers all conditions deemed service connected.
Army Regulation 40-501
Standards of Medical Fitness governs
-
Medical fitness standards for enlistment, induction, and
appointment, including officer procurement programs.

Medical fitness standards for retention and separation,
including retirement.

Medical fitness standards for diving, Special Forces,
Airborne, Ranger, free fall parachute training and duty, and
certain enlisted military occupational specialties (MOS's) and
officer assignments.

Medical standards and policies for aviation.

Physical profiles.

Medical examinations and periodic health assessments.
Army
Regulation 635-40
Physical
Evaluation for Retention, Retirement, or Separation establishes
the Army Physical Disability Evaluation System according to the
provisions of Title 10, United States Code, Chapter 61,
(10 USC 61) and Department of Defense Directive (DODD) 1332.18.
It sets forth policies, responsibilities, and procedures that
apply in determining whether a Soldier is unfit because of
physical disability to reasonably perform the duties of his or
her office, grade, rank, or rating. If a Soldier is found unfit
because of physical disability, this regulation provides for
disposition of the Soldier according to applicable laws and
regulations.
The
objectives of this regulation are to:

Maintain an effective and fit military organization with
maximum use of available manpower.

Provide benefits for eligible Soldiers whose military service
is terminated because of a service-connected disability.

Provide prompt disability processing while ensuring that the
rights and interests of the Government and the Soldier are
protected.
Army Regulation 40-400
Patient
Administration assigns responsibilities and provides guidance on
patient administration in Army regional medical commands and
military treatment facilities. Chapter 7 specifically
deals with Military Personnel Physical Disability Processing.
Army
Regulation 635-200
Active
Duty Enlisted Administrative Separations sets policies,
standards, and procedures to ensure the readiness and competency
of the force while providing for the orderly administrative
separation of soldiers for a variety of reasons. Readiness is
promoted by maintaining high standards of conduct and
performance.
Officer Transfers and Discharges
This
regulation prescribes policies and procedures governing transfer
and discharge of Army officer personnel. This regulation
includes policy statements, operating tasks, rules in support of
operating tasks, and sequential steps of each operating task.
