            
School Liaison
Fort Drum Family and MWR 's School Liaison
Officer is available to assist military Families with transitions to
the local schools. Child, Youth and School Services
encourages parents to utilize these services as we are dedicated
to maintaining a positive and productive relationship between
our Families and the schools that serve them.
School
Liaison Officer Duties
-
Establish, implement, and coordinate all school liaison
administrative and operational policies and procedures.
-
Act as primary advisor to the
Garrison Commander and principal
staff on all matters of concern among students, parents and
local school districts.

Act as an advisor on all matters of concern among students,
parents and local school districts.
-
Coordinate and participate
in The Fort Drum Educational Liaison Committee (FDELC) monthly
meetings with school principals/ superintendents, guidance
counselors and other staff.

Function as an intermediary and advocate between parents and
school administrators.

Provide assistance in school related
procedures i.e. enrollment, home schooling, and out-processing.

Prepare reports, information papers, fact sheets, briefings and
studies as required.
Soldier In/Out Processing
Pre - All Soldiers are given School Liaison information
at the in-processing brief.
During - School Liaison information may be obtained by
contacting the School Liaison Office and/or through Community
Forums.
Post - All Soldiers are required to clear their child's
school through CYSS Parent Central Services and the individual
school building.

Educational Planning process. The EFMP can also
refer Families to the many additional resources offered in the

Home School Options
All home school Families are required to register with the
school district in which they reside. Fort Drum has a local home
school group that is very active. Monthly meetings are held for
parents and children to discuss concerns, issues, and
accomplishments. This group is very knowledgeable regarding home
school regulations. They offer support and many great ideas. For

New York State schools offer two
educational programs of study:
Regents Diploma and Advanced Regents Diploma
Regents Diploma:
English - 4 units, Social Studies - 4 units, Math - 3 units, Science - 3
units, Language other than English (LOTE) - 1 unit, Art/Music - 1 unit,
Health - 1/2 unit, Physical Education - 2 units, Electives - 3 1/2
units.
Advanced Regents Diploma:
English - 4 units, Social Studies - 4 units, Math - 3 units, Science - 3
units, Language other than English (LOTE) - 3 unit, Art/Music - 1 unit,
Health - 1/2 unit, Physical Education - 2 units, Electives - 1 1/2
units.
Required Regents Exams:
(passing score is 65)
Regents Diploma:
Global Studies - Grade 10, English and US History - Grade 11, Math A,
and 1 Science (Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry, Physics).
Advanced Regents Diploma:
Global Studies - Grade 10, English and US History - Grade 11, Math A &
B, and 2 Sciences (Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry,
Physics), 1 Language (given in the third year).

What school will my children attend? Where you reside is
where your children will attend school.

Are there schools on post? No. The Indian River and Carthage
School Districts serve the Families living on post.

Will my children be bussed to school? Yes. All children
residing on post are bussed to school.

Will the school transport my children to and from the School Age
Center and the Youth Center? Yes. If you live on post or are
living in the Indian River or Carthage School District.

If I live in Watertown, how do I find before and after school
care? The YMCA has partnered with the Watertown City School
District to offer before and after school age care. Contact
